The Lindsey Wilson College Writing Center (WC) has officially moved from the Slider Arts and Humanities Center next door to consolidate student resources.
Previously named the Academic Success Center, the newly rennovated Everett Building with both regular tutoring and WC services is now called the Student Success Center. The Center officially opened its doors for the Fall 2024 semester on September 3, and staff members are excited to welcome Lindsey students back.
The move was made possible by a grant that the school was recently awarded. Money from the grant was used to completely renovate the upstairs of the Everett Building. The building now sports an open floor plan with multiple desks and a few smaller rooms for offices and private tutoring sessions.
Student Success counselor Morgan Smith is also the front desk attendee and will be directing students to their tutors within the Student Success Center.
“We wanted to make the WC more easily accessible for students, as more of a meeting place campus and be able to provide them with more space to spread out.”
“We wanted to make the WC more easily accessible for students,” Smith said, “as more of a meeting place campus and be able to provide them with more space to spread out.”
Smith added that its previous location in Slider made it difficult for students to find the WC and many of its resources were overlooked.
According to Smith, another change on campus involves mandated visits to the WC and tutoring center through First-Year Experience classes.
“We knew that they would be coming in here anyway, and so we thought that mandating that both the WC and tutoring center were in one building would be a lot easier for them to access.”
Smith wants students to know that the Success Center is open to any and all suggestions and critiques.
“We want to hear your questions and concerns,” Smith said. “Anything that you have, we want you to feel comfortable in this space and that you are needed and worthy. And we want to better your success.”
